Sustainability is a fuzzy word. At SILFEN it means putting action
behind the words, considering all stakeholders and always aiming a
little bit higher when creating another collection. As a young,
global fashion brand, it is our duty to take care of the planet,
not only for own sake, but for all future generations to come.
Our bags are made with either recycled materials or leather which
is bi-product of the food industry.
Because sustainability is more than just materials, we are
striving to collaborate with factories that have good working
conditions and don’t use childlabour.

Ever heard of circular economy?
We did, and we love it!
Circular economy is a model
of production-consumption based on sharing, leasing, repairing,
reusing, and recycling existing material for as long as
possible. We do this to extend the life cycle of our products,
which in turn lowers their carbon footprint.
But how do we
do it? We'd love to tell you! We try and use recycled materials
or scraps from other industries in our manufacturing process. We
offer advice and assistance to help people take better care of
their bags. Our membership focuses on swapping or exchanging
bags, so more people enjoy the same product. In other words, we
make sure nothing is wasted!
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Working conditions
Sustainability is more than just the environment. It's about people and social equity. That's why we only partner with factories that care about their employees. Our manufacturers are SA8000 certified. This means that their employees have a decent pay wage and benefits like pensions and access to education for their children. Discrimination is not tolerated, and we make sure that our employees are not the subject of prejudice or injustice. We visit our manufacturers regularly to ensure that they follow the issued principles regarding working conditions, quality, pollution etc. This allows us to promise our customers that a SILFEN bag is always crafted in a responsible manner.
Water
We all know the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters. And water is greatly affected by it. At SILFEN, we have two working directions to keep the water clean. We use organic cotton. That means that there is much less water consumption throughout the production and treatment of our cotton than conventional cotton products. And we also make sure not to contaminate drinking water sources. Our rPET line uses recycled plastic. It may come from the ocean or stop it from getting there. Either way, we try to keep our waters clean.
Shipping
We know shipping has a major impact on our environment. That is why we strive to choose environmental-friendly shipping options when possible. To minimize and optimize shipping, we teamed up with other brands. We also try to ship in bulk- by sea or train- as these methods have a lower carbon footprint.
